I was proud to structure and support the budget which included a historic raise for our hardworking educators! In addition, I stood with teachers, education advocacy groups, and legislators to begin the restoration of District Additional Assistance, $100 million this past year. These funds can be used for maintenance and operations as the local school boards determine. Another initiative was to focus on the 17% of students who exhibit signs of dyslexia. With the goal of identifying guidelines for early detection, we developed a handbook that teachers and parents can use as a guide. We have launched, the first of its kind, a pilot pre-school program that will identify students, who would benefit from resources in this area. We will use this program as a guideline to duplicate to other schools and districts. It has been my pleasure to lead this amazing group of parents, teacher, Department of Education, and ASU graduate students who have all been an integral part of this program.
